I watched Pretty in Pink for the first time in a long while. Back in the day, I used to love this movie and think that I was just like Andy because I was a loner and oh so different from everyone else. The more I watched the movie, the more it bugged me. I began to hate Pretty in Pink (okay, more like strongly dislike).
The movie is so flawed.
1. Andy isn't so different from everyone else since she pines to be like the yuppie kids at her high school and she desperately wants to bang a guy named Blaine.
2. Blaine isn't some sweet guy because he totally ditches Andy cause he's embarrassed of her broke ass.
3. Ducky. He wasn't cool, he was a fucking stalker.
4. Are we really supposed to believe that James Spader is a 17 or 18 year old?
5. Why did Andy fuck up that beautiful pink dress that Iona gives her? It was fine the way it was!
There are still a few things I like a lot.
1. Iona, all of her outfits, and her personality.
2. The soundtrack.
3. Andy's dog.

Pilar's first birthday party ever
When my sister was born, my parents were on the brink of losing everything. And to make things even more stressful on my parents, she was born 6 weeks premature on January 5. Being born on this day basically means that for the first three years of her life, Pilar never had a birthday party, until this year! The weather this winter in the Bay Area has been unseasonably warm and dry, so our parents threw
her a small birthday party for her fourth birthday. And all day long she kept reminding everyone who the party was for.
It was for her. Okay?!

Another showing of The Devil's Rejects again, IFC?
There's a channel called Chill or Chiller or something along those lines, and they strictly only show scary or suspenseful programming and movies. Usually it's hours-long marathons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (yay!) or really crappy direct-to-DVD or tv movies. That's all well and good. I'm glad there's a channel for everything now. So, why is it that anytime I change the channel to IFC, the movie Hostel, The Devil's Rejects, or some other horror movie is on? Why aren't there any independent movies on? Why are they showing reruns of Malcolm in the Middle (a good show, but still, it was on Fox for like 10 years)? Why can't they show reruns of The Henry Rollins Show like they used to? Isn't that the entire point of IFC, to show independent movies and shows?
Just show me reruns of your original programming and all the other good stuff you used to show! That's all I ask of you.
But don't stop showing reruns of Freaks and Geeks because...that show is the shit.

Pen Pal-ing it up
This year I want write letters and spend less time lurking my friends and relatives on Facebook. Call me old fashioned all you want, but I get way more excited when I receive a letter or a card in the mail rather than some little red check mark telling me that I have a new message or comment on Facebook.
I'll be sending my uncle Jimmy a package full of metal goodness to start off my pen pal extravaganza in this new year.

Trying to make this shit happen
1. Start on and finish a book I got back in November:
2. Cut back, but not completely cut out, on this:
and since I'm at it, cut back on this, too:
3. Spend more time with these ladies:
Also, spend more time with my friends. We work so much, live fairly close to each other, and still don't hang out as often as we should.
4. Spend money on mini trips and not on shoes.
5. Be a better S.O. for this guy:
6. Stop saying that everything sucks, because it really doesn't.

Everything has to come to an end
Since everyone is doing this, here's my best of for 2011:
Best (sweetest) thing I heard someone say:
"Hold on to me, my love"--an elderly man saying this to his wife who could barely walk.
Best creepy moment:
I swear to this day that we were being watched by Tom Cruise the entire time and that we were going to die a horrible, horrible death.
Best road trip:
We drank, we head banged, we conquered at Scion Metal Fest 2011 in Pomona, CA.
Best "I need to start using ear plugs now" moment:
Best purchase:
It's a tie between car insurance and my new Marc by Marc Jacobs purse.
(And just to throw it in there, worst purchase was those black Onitsuka Tiger shoes I bought on Black Friday. They're basically overpriced shoes made out of recycled cardboard.)
Best date with the Bearded Man
Our day in SF.
Best FUCK YEAH! I'M SO EXCITED!!! moment:
Watching, listening to Henry Rollins interview Dinosaur Jr. and then seeing Dinosaur Jr. play so loud they rival Neurosis.
Also, getting hired at my internship, and then a week later my mom got hired at her job after being unemployed for almost 2 years.
Best anything:
Every other day that I didn't mention. The days where I all I did was go to work, come home, go out, eat food, drink beers, read, window-shop, run errands, make horrible jokes, go on bike rides, make plans but never follow through cause all of the above goes on instead, start on and sometimes finish projects, and watch tv.
I think 2011 was a pretty damn good year.

My first
Homemade pizza!
I don't think I can ever go back to ordering pizza again...well, maybe if it's from Pizza & Curry. I had told myself earlier in the year that I wanted to attempt to make a pizza. Off to Trader Joe's it was to get the ingredients:
Pre-made pizza dough
pesto sauce
mozzarella
chopped pancetta
sliced Roma tomatoes
Assemble it any way you want, stick in in the oven at 400 for 15 minutes and there it is!
Just add your favorite beer.
