Spontaneous DIY Saturday: No Statik racerback

Turn a regular t-shirt into a racerback tank. I bought this No Statik t-shirt at Chaos with many plans in mind for it. When I came back from my trip to Chaos, I didn't get to my project right away and my t-shirt just sat in different spots in the room.

California Love Fest

We ventured off to Central California to check out California Love Fest, a straight edge music fest taking place in Fresno, where dreams died a long time ago. That's as much shit talking on a town that I've never lived in that I'm going to do. Dreams did die there, but the newer generations are trying to change that. Chinatown Youth Center is a great example of kids coming together to bring safe, fun, all ages shows to their downtown area. They did a good job of putting together an all day music fest with 16 bands in a small space: bands setting up quickly, merch tables outside, making sure people respected the properties of their (few) fellow businesses.
Aside from a few minor fights that took place when shit got too rough in the pit, it truly was a peaceful and amazing festival. California Love.

The things that stick with you

Sometimes I never listen to what the singer in a band has to say, it's either because I can't hear from the ear plugs that I wear to protect my shitty hearing or I just flat out tune out when the music stops in between songs and only tune in when the music starts. I'd seen the band OUTLOOK once before and the singer of the band, a cool girl named Adriana, was telling a story about her cousin in the navy who was ashamed of the things he had to do during his tours in Iraq. I don't know why that story stuck with me, why I've thought about that story many times after that. She told the story today, and even though I'd heard her tell the story before, it still made me a little teary-eyed. And then I saw one of the best sets.

There are a ton of bands and almost 8000+ songs on my ipod but these are the go-to bands I listen to when I can't decide on what to listen to. It's so easy to just go to one of these bands and sing (or scream) along to all of their songs that I already know by heart. Sure it's good to discover new music, but these bands are comforting to my ears. You know you have your own go-to bands!

Never Too Old

I'm starting to feel old when I go to shows. I remember not that long ago, I was always near the front of the stage, but now I find myself inching my way to the back to escape the many windmills and kicks. Last night we went to see Sabertooth Zombie at Gilman and it's always at Gilman that I find myself thinking "am I too old for this shit?" and "will I still be coming to shows at Gilman when I'm even older?" The answers are no and yes. As long as there's good music and people that still want to put on shows and folks who enjoy going to shows, then it's still a worthwhile past time. I'm not going to be partaking in the circle pit anymore, but when a band plays a song that is worth jumping into the pit, then I'm sure as hell going to jump in it. You're never too old to rock out. So what if I got a cramp afterward? So what if I feel sore the next day? I'm not too old for this shit.

Check out Sabertooth Zombie, they're an awesome band with a great sense of humor and never boring at all.
